Established in 2008, the Classic has evolved to become Australia's premier Campdrafting competition and world-class performance horse sale.
The inaugural Nutrien Classic was certainly modest in its beginning with 129 horses catalogued in the first sale held at the Tamworth Showground in May 2008. The sale turned out to be an immediate success with 123 horses offered for sale with a clearance of 92%, grossing $1.2 million.
After that first sale, the Classic concept continued to grow as it relocated to the then brand new AELEC facility, where it has developed into a mainstay event in the Australian Campdraft calendar.
The Classic progressed into Australia's premier Campdrafting competition and a world class performance horse sale, boasting one of Australia's richest Campdraft winner's purses with $50,000 cash plus prizes awarded to the champion each year. The annual event now runs over 10 days and comprises of 6 feature events, 2 cash incentives and over $348,000 total cash and prizes.
Now in its 19th year, the 2026 Nutrien Classic Sale and Campdraft has up to 700 horses catalogued and 1,100 competition runs.
